When I first started this project I didn't know what I wanted to do because once again we had so many different ideas to choose from that I didn't know where to start. When I first started to do this project I thought that I was going to do three different fruits. I wanted to do the inside of a kiwi, banana, and a strawberry. I first wanted to do the kiwi because I had an idea of what I wanted to do and how I was going to do it. Once I finished the kiwi I started the strawberry which I had no idea how to make. Once I got the white part of the strawberry done I realized that it wasn't going to turn out good or even look like a strawberry so I rethought out what I was doing and took off what I had glued down and started to make another kiwi but when I did this one I did the middle part and the outside a little different because I didn't want it to look the same. I choose I didn't color green tissue paper so that it didn't blend in and once I got the whole kiwi made out I choose to make the middle part the same. The way I made the middle part was I took hot clue and made a thin layer on a piece of tissue paper and then put another sheet of tissue paper down; then I let it dry and took the leftover paper off. For the first kiwi I made the black lines out of black paper. With the next kiwi I made it the same way I made the middle part of the kiwi. I didn't have black paper so I painted white tissue black.
I was really excited when I found out what this project was and that we could do anything that we wanted. I thought that it would be fun to just do whatever we wanted and any Idea that came to mind would really work. It didn't have to make sense but as long as it told a story that made sense. When I first started this project we had such a large area of Ideas that I had no Idea what I wanted to do. I just first started to change the color of the paper but it didn't really work that good so I tore up tissue paper and glued it down in the places that didn't have color on the paper. The next thing that I did was cut up faces to make one face but that didn't work because the faces were all different sizes so it didn't look like one face. I really liked the Idea of having the face cut up but you could still see that it was one face. At this point I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to make the theme of this practice project be how everyone can make themselves look different with just a little bit different. You can change how you look and make people believe that you are someone different than you are. I made the different make up weave through the cut up the pieces of the face because I thought that It would show how even If you cover up your face you are still who you are on the inside.
When we started this project and my table got desert as this project I really wanted to do ice cream because it is my favorite thing to have after dinner. I thought that it would be cute to do pumpkin ice cream because it was in the middle of October when we started this project. I was going to do a waffle cone but I just couldn’t get the ice cream to work with the cone so I just did an ice cream cup. I also made some little pumpkin cookies to go along with the ice cream cup because it just needed something to go along with it. When I had to choose between painting it with realy paint or glaze I picked doing glaz because I thought that it would make the ice cream to look shiny which was the look o was going for. I painted the cup a purple color but it didn't come out how I thought it would look at all. I really don't like it at all and if I could go back and just paint it the purple that I wanted then that's what I would do because as it is now it doesn't look I even tried to paint it purple. The cookies are my favorite part because its the only thing that even kinda looks like what it should be. The ice cream doesn't have the texture that I thought or wanted it to have and thinking about I shouldn't of done ice-cream because the texture is hard to get and most people think it's a cupcake. Looking back I am proud of what came from this project because it showed that you can't just pick something you really have to think about it. Meaning just because you like something doesn't mean that it will come out good. Some people are good at things and to be good at something you have to think about it and think about how you are going to make it work. With this project I wanted to do something and went for it without even thinking about how to make it work and I should of thought about it. If I had thought about it then maybe this project would of came out a little bit better.
When I was thinking of ideas of what to do draw I wanted to do something that had to do with the season and that’s why I picked pumpkins. I thought that it would be cute and kind of easy. When I first started this project I was just going to do one pumpkin and I was going to do a under layer in colored pencil and then oil pastel on top of that. When I did the first started to do the final drawing I did it on black paper because I thought that it would be bright and stand out on that paper. Once I got close to finishing that one pumpkin it didn’t look like a real pumpkin, it looks like a fake one that you would see in a cartoon. I got help from Mrs. Rossi and the people at my table to come up with a better idea and help on how to make it look real. I ended up doing four pumpkins and having shadows on top of the pumpkins and I did it on brown paper. The people at my table helped me show where the pumpkin went in and how to make the shadows not too hard but make sure that they were there. I learned not to be scared with dark and light colors because they really help bring out the detail in the piece. I also learned that you can’t use too much pressure at first because you have to add for color and you can’t if you start out with too much color.
We did three different kinds of medians for this project. We did chalk, colored pencils, and oil pastels. We drew different kinds of candy; for the chalk we did a peppermint. This one was my least favorite because it wasn’t easy to shade with the chalk. It was also difficult to keep the white apart from the red that is why I did a green one. I did light green for white part and then a dark green where the red. It was hard to do highlights with the white to show the wrapper because the colors didn’t want to go over each other easily. We did a Dum-Dum lollipop for the colored pencils and it was much easier. It was easier to do the shading and make it look realistic. I liked the fact that I could blend the colors together and make it look like it made to be like that unlike with the chalk. My favorite one to work with was the oil pastels making the jolly rancher. With the oil pastels I liked how well you could blend the colors together. It looked like the real object you were trying to make. You could do an outline with the colors and then come back and put a lot of detail into it.
When I made this sketch I didn't make the objects big enough to cover over each other.
When I started this project I thought it was going to be easy because with George Braque he just uses shapes and bold colors and colleges to make his painting. The shapes are very distinct because he uses very bold black lines. I learned that when painting and you want to do shading you have to work quickly so that the paint doesn't dry up because then you can mix the paint. This art work is intended to represent mickey and Mickey mouse. I did the Mickey eyes and face. I did Minnie’s bow that she is always wearing. I did the buttons for mickey and the pink dots for Minnie because she had dots on her dress. When I started this project I was kind of scared about the shading because it’s easy to shade with pencil or even colored pencils but with paint it seemed like it was going to be much harder because you have to mix different colors together. Once I started to it, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I was very happy with the way it ended up and I’m proud of how well it shows off Disney and you can tell what it is.
This is when I was trying to figure out what candy bars I wanted to do and what perspective I wanted to do.
I ended up choosing to do two point perspective and that's when I started to add the smaller things, like the street, the lollipop stop signs, and the cotton candy trees.
This is when I started to add the candy bars on to the buildings.
I wanted to use the prompt that said to create a fantasy world. I created a candy land. When creating this city I wanted to use lollipops as the stop signs and cotton candy as the trees and clouds. I thought that the cotton candy would be good for the trees because of the shape it looks like a tree but just different colors. I added color to is so that you can see the different kind of candy bars and also so that you get the feel of the cotton candy trees and the clouds. I think that it adds a feel of life to the city. I made the road purple just to make it seem like a fun town and have something different. When I was doing my final draft I was looking at it and wondering if I should add color to it or not, now that I have finished I'm glad that I did do the color because I think it adds a sense of lightness to the project. You can see that this is a very happy and cheerful city. I used technology as a tool because I wanted to see how the candy bars looked and I also wanted to see how buildings looked in different perspectives.
